AGUIRRE MUNIZAGA, Claudio; DIAZ ARAYA, Alberto e MONDACA ROJAS, Carlos. De pescador artesanal a tripulante pesquero: Pesca industrial y transformaciones sociales en Tarapacá. Norte de Chile (1950-1990). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2014, vol.15, n.1, pp.177-185. ISSN 1850-373X.
This article explores the social and cultural changes that occured with the industrialization of fishing in the second half of the 20th century on the coasts of Tarapaca, northern Chile. In this way, we show the historical, social, and cultural importance of the fishing industry in the Tarapaca region and how the industry's employees are diverse subjects who share crafts, stories and practices. In addition we investigate how the industrialization of fishing affects not only how fishing activities are carried out, but also how those who work in the industry see themselves, the construction of masculinities, and the transformation of the fishing workers in the modernization of the industry.
