Abstract

PALERMO, Hernán M. Fisonomías sociales en Comodoro Rivadavia y experiencias obreras en torno al trabajo petrolero. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2014, vol.15, n.2, pp.419-429. ISSN 1850-373X.

Hydrocarbon production in Comodoro Rivadavia provides a peculiar physiognomy to the city's productive and cultural life, linking people's life experiences in the factory and beyond. As such, this article analyzes the relationship between working conditions in the oil and gas industry and the configuration of practices and social representations within the Comodoro community in general and for the workers in particular. Shift work is studied in the paper, including its concrete and profound consequences for the lives of workers and their families, and the tensions between the "oil and gas community" (workers and families who are deeply connected with the oil and gas industry) and the rest of the community. The principal methodology was ethnographic, which consisted of participant observations in the field and in-depth and group interviews of workers.

Keywords : Jobs; Oil; Representations; Capital exploitation; Stigmatization.
