Abstract

BANEGAS, Anahí; GOYE, María Soledad  and  GOMEZ OTERO, Julieta. Caracterización regional de recursos líticos en el nordeste de la provincia del Chubut (Patagonia argentina). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2015, vol.16, suppl.1, pp.39-50. ISSN 1850-373X.

This work presents the results of the use of lithic raw materials by hunter-gatherer groups that occupied two geomorphological systems of the northeast of Chubut province, the northern coast and the lower valley and mouth of Chubut river. In order to establish the lithic resources regional base different methodologies were used: systematic rock samplings in secondary deposits of pebbles, macroscopic and microscopic analyses of lithic sources and artifacts, and the creation of a lithotheque. It was verified the main selection of the wide and varied regional supply of diverse quality rocks suitable for several uses. These nodules show differential availability in size, shape and quality between the two geomorphological systems. It was also determined the use of a reduced variety of nonlocal raw materials. These results allow the discussion about the technological strategies adopted by the hunter-gatherers groups who inhabited the study area in relation to the regional base of lithic resources.
