Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2015, vol.16, n.3, pp.467-479. ISSN 1850-373X.

This paper presents the results of petrographic analysis of thin sections of ceramic pastes from two late pre- Hispanic and colonial areas of the Jujuy puna. The aim is to contribute to the understanding of the organization of pottery production in these societies through the characterization of their technological choices and to increase knowledge of pre-Hispanic and colonial ceramic technology (no research has been carried out on the latter). Ceramic pastes were classified into nine groups through observations made with a binocular microscope. Groups were checked and modified through thin sectioning, petrographic characterization through description, and pointcount quantification of a chosen sample. Additionally, characterization of inclusions showed concordance with local geology. Two larger groups were identified, possibly related to pre-Hispanic local technological traditions, together with smaller groups, which probably dated to post Hispanic-indigenous contact.
