Attempts to characterize the economic and socio-political organization of the Huarpe of Mendoza have included consideration of intensive development of some activities, the presence of processes of economic intensification, and organization at the level of villages and chiefdoms. Given the uncertainties underlying these proposals, and the very little previous discussion on the issue, this article seeks to contribute to the advancement of knowledge on this topic through a general evaluation and discussion of the all the archaeological and documentary information available.
