PASTOR, Sebastián; GORDILLO, Sandra  e  TISSERA, Luis. Objetos y paisajes multisensoriales del Holoceno tardío inicial en el centro de Argentina (ca. 3900 años AP): Acerca de un contexto arqueomalacológico de las Sierras de Córdoba. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.3, pp.317-327. ISSN 1850-373X.

The results of an investigation of an initial Late Holocene (c. 3900 years BP) archaeomalacological context from Punilla valley (Córdoba, Argentina) are presented in this paper. The context was discovered in a restricted space at an archaeological site defined as an open air base camp, which was partly used for funerary practices. The context consists of the intentional deposition of 97 large snail beads made up of adult specimens of Megalobulimus lorentzianus, a locally available terrestrial species. The beads are interpreted as multisensory objects with particular visual and auditory qualities, and used as part of ritual clothing. The context is linked to the social processes of the initial late Holocene in the region, defined as a time of socio-cultural change for local hunter-gatherers, including the increased role of materials in the active creation of new identities and personal roles.

Palavras-chave : Snail beads; Sound objects; Ritual clothing; Emerging personal roles.
