Abstract

RODRIGUEZ, Juan Manuel. Análisis faunístico del sitio Las Toscas 5 (Tres Arroyos, provincia de Buenos Aires): Contribución al conocimiento de la subsistencia de cazadoresrecolectores pampeanos en el Holoceno medio. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.1, pp.49-60. ISSN 1850-373X.

The Las Toscas 5 site is located in the county of Tres Arroyos in the Interserrana area of the Pampas region of Argentina. Two radiocarbon dates from guanaco (Lama guanicoe) bone place the human occupation around 4600 BP. The objective of this paper is to present the main characteristics of the faunal record from the site in order to discuss trends in subsistence during the Middle Holocene. The results of zooarchaeological and taphonomic studies were evaluated in conjunction with the environmental dynamics inferred for the site. Results demonstrate that guanaco was the predominant prey with smaller animals constituting complementary resources.
