SERNA, Alejandro e LUNA, Leandro H. Evaluación de la concordancia odontométrica a través del error entre observadores e instrumentales. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.2, pp.123-132. ISSN 1850-373X.
The assessment of measurement error in dental studies is important due to the need to generate comparable results. Among the potential error sources, the one generated by the different instruments used can be very relevant. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the degree of agreement between the measurements obtained by two observers with two different odontometric calipers. For this purpose, the buccolingual and mesiodistal diameters of tooth crowns and necks of 26 individuals were analyzed through uni and multivariate statistical procedures. The results indicate that the way the calipers measure is different, since the points in which they must be positioned are not generally the same. The importance of this paper lies in the possibility of proposing large-scale odontometric studies through the integration of information generated by different researchers with different instruments. Comparisons between data sets obtained with different calipers must be exercised with caution. In these cases, the interpretations should only be made in comparative terms, without incorporating the data obtained in the same analysis.
