The results of the analysis of vegetable microremains contained in two sets of pipes from archaeological sites on the banks of the River Plate are presented in this article. The artefacts are a pipe with pre-Hispanic characteristics from the town of Pipinas (Punta Indio) and a set of nineteenth-century kaolin pipes from Magdalena Department. The aim of this paper is to present evidence of the use of plants associated with smoking in the River Plate coastal strip and evaluate the use of local flora for smoking. The reference collection and the methodology used to identify microremains of each context are presented. Traits related to wild autochthonous species such as Ephedra spp., Jodina rhombifolia, Schinus and Celtis were identified, as well as anatomical elements corresponding to the leaves of other taxa.
