Resumen
NOVITZKY, Dimitri. Heart Transplant. Rev. argent. cardiol. [online]. 2007, vol.75, n.5, pp.390-397. ISSN 1850-3748.
In 1985 the Heart Transplant Program was initiated at the Tampa General Hospital. Up to date 815 transplants have been performed in 795 patients, of which 17 were re-transplanted. The survival rate at one month was 94.5%, one year 87%, 3 years 81%, 5 years 74%, and 10 years 52%. The Medical Review Board meets weekly for patient follow up and selection of the appropriate candidates for the program. Within the several Organ Procurement Organizations of the Region, institution of hormonal therapy for the donor and the receptor is widely accepted. At the Tampa General Hospital, levotiroxine is also administered to the receptor at the operating room and the intensive care unit under conditions of low minute volume. Most transplants are performed in patients of status 1A or 1B. Immunosupression is indicated by cardiologists, as well as the performance of endomyocardial biopsy in order to adjust immunosuppressant therapy. In this review, the general results of the program are being presented, as well as patient selection, surgical procedures, Immunosupression and required ventricle assistance.
