DELGADO-ROCHE, Livan y MARTINEZ-SANCHEZ, Gregorio. Role of Reactive Oxygen Species in Myocardial Damage Induced by Ischemia/Reperfusion. Rev. argent. cardiol. [online]. 2010, vol.78, n.1, pp.54-60. ISSN 1850-3748.
Coronary artery diseases are one of the main causes of death in the western countries. Myocardial damage is one of the pathological manifestations of this type of diseases and it may be the consequence of the episodes of ischemia/reperfusion. The mechanisms responsible for myocardial damage induced by ischemia/reperfusion are complex, yet a few factors linked with this process have been identified. Reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress have been involved in cell damage during an episode of ischemia/reperfusion. We performed a review of this matter through a bibliographic search in Medline to determine the role of reactive oxygen species during myocardial ischemia/reperfusion.
