Abstract

BELLOLI, Luis Alberto. Algunos aportes al conocimiento de la numeración Mapuche. Rev. electrón. investig. educ. cienc. [online]. 2009, vol.4, n.2, pp.1-6. ISSN 1850-6666.

Even though it is common to claim that math developed from the moment writing existed, that is to say when man was able to think about that which was written, the culture of the Mapuche people is a good example of math which developed only from speech. In this work, we will analyze the structure of numeration and the ways the Mapuches used for counting, we will also reflect upon the influence they received both from the Incas and the Spanish conquerors. Moreover, we shall analize the ways in which the structure of the language influences the design of the strategies for the formation of "numerical words" created in order to give structure to the decimal numerical system adopted by the Mapuches.

Keywords : The History or Math; The Mapuches people; Decimal systen.
