Abstract

LEITAO, Lúcia Irala; DORNELES TEIXEIRA, Pedro Fernando  and  SARAIVA DA ROCHA, Fábio. Video-analysis as a resource to experimental physics teaching: an example of mechanic application. Rev. electrón. investig. educ. cienc. [online]. 2011, vol.6, n.1, pp.18-32. ISSN 1850-6666.

Basic aspects of the video-analysis technique are presented and some of its possibilities of usage as a supportive didactic tool are discussed, focusing the teaching of classical movements in experimental physics. It consists of an instructional resource which does not demand large financial investments. Besides a computer, an equipment to capture image is needed, what can be a digital camera, a cell phone or simply a web cam. It is also needed a computer program through which the video analysis is done, allowing to work an image sequence to identify the position of an object at each time instant. It is also presented a summary of the didactic experience results in which the video-analysis resource was applied in classroom with students of Physics Laboratory II, offered in the many Engineering and Physics courses at Campus Bagé of the Universidade Federal do Pampa (UNIPAMPA). It could be verified that the video-analysis was received with interest by the students and it contributed to a better understanding on the physical basis contained in the study of the oscillatory movement executed by the physical pendulum. The results point that it is possible to use the video-analysis as a tool to facilitate the experimental physics teaching. However, there is a need for more researches to reinforce a direction to consolidate the use of this didactic tool.
