SARAIVA BELMONT, Rachel; BATISTA, Luiz Alberto y DOS SANTOS LEMOS, Evelyse. The Free Body Diagram as resource for meaningful learning evaluation in Biomechanics in a Physical Education course. Rev. electrón. investig. educ. cienc. [online]. 2011, vol.6, n.1, pp.71-86. ISSN 1850-6666.
Biomechanics is a discipline characterized by its interdisciplinary nature, so that undergraduate students often perceived it as a discipline that is quite difficult to understand. Thus, Physical Education/ Kinesiology professionals do not use it much in their everyday teaching events. As its knowledge is essential to the improvement of their professional practice this qualitative study, which has a case study format, aims at understanding the students' meaningful learning process about the essentials concepts for the correct elaboration of the Free Body Diagram along the discipline Biomechanics in the Physical Education course at a public University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Meaningful Learning Theory constituted our theoretical framework and the participant observation our main methodological strategy. Besides the field notes, we took as registrations the answers of a questionnaire and of four tests accomplished during and after the discipline that, according to nature, they were classified. The results suggested that, in the continuum mechanical learning - meaningful, the learning inclined to the first, in spite of apparent progress, concerning the overall knowledge demonstrated in the set of performed activities, it seemed on this side of that we waited.
