Abstract

CLEMENT, Luiz; CUSTODIO, José Francisco  and  ALVES FILHO, José de Pinho. The Quality of Motivation among High School Physics Students. Rev. electrón. investig. educ. cienc. [online]. 2014, vol.9, n.1, pp.84-95. ISSN 1850-6666.

The lack of interest and motivation in students to study and to learn Physics is an educational problem to be faced. The aim of this research was to evaluate the motivational quality of 708 high school students by implementing the Scale of Motivation: Didactics Activities of Physics (EMADF) prepared based on self-determination theory. Comparative analyzes were conducted between types of motivation and the variables: gender, grades and source location. The results revealed that the autonomous motivation of the girls was higher than of the boys who, in turn, had higher averages in the controlled motivation and in the lack of motivation. Along the three grades was evidenced a small decrease in all types of motivation. With regard to the source location the results showed higher averages in controlled motivation and in the lack of motivation as well as in autonomous motivation among students from a same city. The results as a whole portray an important reading about the motivational quality of the students to develop activities in the physics classes, what can foster the proposition of new studies to dialogue and to complementary the considerations arising from this research.

Keywords : Motivation; Self-Determination Theory; Physics Teaching; High School.
