TORRES MERCHAN, Nidia Yaneth. Characterization of informal reasoning from the use of a socio-scientific question with teachers in training in natural sciences. Rev. electrón. investig. educ. cienc. [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.1, pp.1-11. ISSN 1850-6666.

This study presents the identification of the types of informal reasoning in two contexts of learning: experimental practical work and the development of a teaching sequence to approach a socio-scientific issue related to coffee consumption in 38 student training program in Bachelor in Natural Sciences and Environmental Education at a Colombian university. The analysis of the study identifies aspects of informal reasoning on grounds of authority, experiential, personal, reasons of environmental and social impact. It is evident that the labs can recognize more experiential kind of reasoning related to the calibration of the instruments, the distillation temperature, pH and the amount of caffeine, the type of coffee; while the development of the teaching sequence can recognize theoretical reasons related to methodological characteristics of science, the energizing coffee Indeed, the presence of amino acids, the effect of free radicals, the amount of protein and the presence of chlorogenic acid.

Keywords : Informal reasoning; Argumentation; Teacher Training; socio-scientific issue.
