Abstract

PEZOA REYES, María Inés  and  MORALES SOTO, Astrid. The role of modeling in a situation that redefines function concept of function. Rev. electrón. investig. educ. cienc. [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.2, pp.52-63. ISSN 1850-6666.

This research addresses the redefinition of mathematical knowledge associated with the concept of function in a modeling environment. We analyze the meanings and uses that students are able to construct regarding mathematical notions emerging in a process of modeling in a specific situation. We postulate that modeling generates mathematical knowledge in terms of construction and enrichment of meaning related to the content and learning objectives related to the concept of function in the Chilean current curriculum; in order to prove it , we designed an ad hoc situation. The research focuses in middle school and its theoretical basis is Socioepistemology.

Keywords : Modeling; Redefining; Function; Socioepistemology.
