Abstract

This article analyzes the level of statistical reasoning about variability that mathematics teachers show when solving prediction tasks registered in binomial problems, before and after taking part of computational simulation activities. The research method corresponds to a case study, in which seven in-service teachers participated. To collect the data, two questionnaires were used that served as pre and post in each phase of the study. The teachers' responses were analyzed considering four levels of statistical reasoning established from the SOLO taxonomy: prestructural, unistructural, multistructural and relational. The answers to the previous questionnaire indicate a predominance of the prestructural level, by not fulfilling the requirements of the task; after the simulation activities, an increase in the level of reasoning was evident in the teachers' responses, classifying them as multistructural and relational, by considering the variability in the prediction tasks.
