SGOBBI, Fabiana S.; TAROUCO, Liane M. R.  y  REATEGUI, Eliseo. Mundo virtual 3D e Internet das Coisas para motivar mudança de comportamento saudável. Rev. iberoam. tecnol. educ. educ. tecnol. [online]. 2017, n.19, pp.7-15. ISSN 1851-0086.

Obesity is currently one of the most important public health problems in Brazil and in several countries in the world because it can cause various diseases (heart, diabetes, abnormal cholesterol and other fees). Successful treatment of chronic diseases, especially obesity, strongly depends on the participation and involvement of the individual as an active subject of their treatment. The use of 3D virtual worlds has been studied in this work as a support strategy in order to offer the user the feeling of "being there" in an environment specially prepared to promote motivation and allow interaction with 3D objects. These elements have the potential to motivate and influence the individual participant of the program. This paper reports a study that investigated the impact of the combination of 3D virtual worlds with Internet of Things and mobile devices as elements capable of promoting the motivation of individuals involved in an obesity management program. The work was supported in self-determination theory using extrinsic motivation strategies, in order to achieve behavior change and as a result, gains in improving health and quality of life.
