Resumen

FRANCO AZEVEDO, Jéssica; OLIVEIRA, Luciani Salcedo de  y  FERREIRA, Vera Lúcia Duarte. Digital technologies: perceptions of English language school teachers. Rev. iberoam. tecnol. educ. educ. tecnol. [online]. 2021, n.30, pp.123-131. ISSN 1851-0086.

This article - based on an Undergraduate Thesis entitled “The Use of Digital Technologies Applied to the Teaching of English as an Additional Language (TEAL) in Public English Language Teachers’ Viewpoint” developed in the Additional Languages Teacher Education Program of UNIPAMPA, Campus Bagé, Brazil, (2019) - aims at reflecting upon the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the TEAL in public schools in the very South of Brazil. The 18 research participants are EAL teachers who teach in regular and/or professional schools. They have answered a questionnaire available at the Google Forms platform. In this article, emphasis is given to these teachers’ beliefs in the use of ICT resources in their own classes. The theoretical support of this text is grounded in additional language teaching/learning literature and in the use of ICT. Data analysis reveals that 100% of the research participants believe that technology is a helpful resource for the EAL teaching and learning process; however, 66,7% of them only sometimes make use of digital resources in their classroom. It means that there are some challenges faced by these EAL teachers at school; therefore, an actual and critical look can be established towards the work of language teachers.

Palabras clave : Public school; English as an Additional Language; Information and communication technology.
