PEREZ, Martina  e  GASPAROTTI, Leticia. Caracterización petrográfica de las pastas cerámicas de Antofagasta de la Sierra (Puna austral Argentina): Un enfoque comparativo a nivel intersitiosPetrographic characterization of ceramic fabric from Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca province, Argentina): A comparative approach to intersite level. Comechingonia [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.1, pp.175-202. ISSN 1851-0027.

In this article the results of the petrographic analysis of pottery samples from Antofagasta de la Sierra are presented to understand the relationships established between the human groups who settled at the conglomerate dwellings in the lower basin, and those living in the intermediate sectors during the first half of the second millennium AD. The nature of the temper used is analyzed to relate ceramic manufacture to regional geology, identifying some possible foreign groups. Broadly speaking, petrographic samples show significant variability, evidencing the selection of different raw materials and, possibly, several manufacturing traditions. The samples from the lower basin present a stronger homogeneity, which could have resulted from the functional needs implied in the process of agricultural intensification. On the other hand, in intermediate sectors, ceramic fabrics could be inferred as possible local traditions at the intra-site level.
