SILVA, Carolina. EVALUATION OF SITE FORMATION PROCESSES FROM THE POTTERY: THE CASE OF LAGUNA DE LOS GANSOS 1 (DIAMANTE DEPARTMENT, ENTRE RÍOS PROVINCE).. Comechingonia [online]. 2017, vol.21, n.2, pp.1-10. ISSN 1851-0027.
In this paper the study of technological attributes and post-depositional alterations of buried ceramic material from Laguna de los Gansos 1 site are presented in order to identify the taphonomic agents and processes involved in its preservation. The environmental characteristics of the recovery context, such as vegetation, sedimentology and geomorphology, were considered, as well as the occurrence of modern anthropic processes like livestock trampling. The alteration traces recorded include cracking, abrasion, rounding and accretions, among others. Sherds size was also recorded to evaluate the degree of fragmentation. The results suggest that the ceramic material was mainly subjected to the effects of free-standing water and livestock trampling. Furthermore, the co-occurrence of some technological attributes, sherd size and alteration traces was explored. Finally, is stated the need for further analysis of the different and complex interactions between pottery intrinsic properties and extrinsic factors (environment and burial conditions) that affect the material preservation, towards a better interpretation and comparison of archaeological settings.
