Abstract
RODRIGUEZ, Juan M. and BONOMO, Mariano. NEW ZOOARCHAEOLOGICAL AND TAPHONOMIC ANALYSES OF THE CERRO TAPERA VÁZQUEZ SITE (PRE-DELTA NATIONAL PARK, ARGENTINA). Comechingonia [online]. 2021, vol.25, n.1, pp.81-100. ISSN 1851-0027.
The Cerro TaperaVázquez (CTV) archaeologicalsite is located within the Pre-Delta National Park in insular environment of the Paraná River. Two radiocarbon dates from charcoals place the human occupation around 600 BP. This article presents new results obtained from the re-analyses of the fauna of this archaeological site. Different mammal species were identified as cervids(Blastocerusdichotomus, Ozotocerosbezoarticus), carnivores (Leopardusgeoffroyi, Lycalopexgymnocercus) and rodents (Myocastor coypus, Caviaaperea, Hydrochoerushydrochaeris). In addition, remains of birds (Podiceps major), fish (Pimelodus sp., Doradidae) and freshwater molluscs were identified. The main prey exploited was the coypu (Myocastor coypus). The presence of other aquatic and terrestrial resources is probably due to occasional hunting (e.gLeopardusgeoffroyi) or its natural incorporation into the deposit (e.g.Caviaaperea).
