Resumen

BALDUCCI, Fernando  y  GALLIGANI, Paula E.. MORPHOLOGICAL AND FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE POTTERY RECORD OF THE NORTHEASTERN ESPINAL: ARROYO CULULÚ 1 AND LAS ACACIAS 1 ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES (LAS COLONIAS, SANTA FE, ARGENTINA). Comechingonia [online]. 2022, vol.26, n.2, pp.51-60. ISSN 1851-0027.

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the pottery remains from Arroyo Cululú 1 and Las Acacias 1 archaeological sites from a morphological and functional approach. These sites are located in central Santa Fe plain, in the Northeastern Espinal ecoregion. The assemblages are very fragmented, with low representation of complete or semi-complete vessels. Despite the fact that this makes the morphological reconstruction difficult, it is possible to observe specific attributes through different refitting strategies. Morphological reconstruction allows to get closer to vessels functions and to obtain new evidence about past populations subsistence and ways of life. In this work, we present an analysis of edge and base fragments, and other specific elements (v.g. handles, appendices), recovered from both sites. The resultssuggest the existence of a set of varied shapes, with open and closed vessels of different diameters, sizes and thicknesses, which past populations would have used to carry out different tasks (v.g. storage, cooking). The collected data, as well as other archaeological evidence obtained from the sites, allows to infer information on functions related to both domestic and funeral spheres, and relationships between the groups that inhabited the area and those who occupied neighboring sectors.
