Resumen

MIKULIC, Isabel María et al. "Ecological transition": A study of coping with migration, imprisonment and divorce life crisis from Positive Psychology approach. Anu. investig. [online]. 2006, vol.13, pp.175-184. ISSN 1851-1686.

This study is focused on different ecological transitions coping, migration, imprisonment and divorce; and integrates concepts from Positive Psychology and Psychological Assessment. Bronfenbrenner (1987) defines an ecological transition as occurring "whenever a person's position in the ecological environment is altered as the result of a change in role, setting or both." Four intentional samples, thirty participants in each, have been analized in this exploratory-descriptive research: a) migration sample, b) divorced sample, c) inmates sample and d) control sample. Results show that there are significant differences in the coping responses selected as groups having undergone any of these life stressors show increased emotion-focused coping responses. This confirms that specific characteristics of life transitions lead to a selection of coping responses which allow participants to manage the feelings provoked by a crisis and to maintain affective equilibrium (Moos, 1986).
