Abstract

SEIDMANN, Susana et al. Social representations of education and work in a period of social crisis in young argentinian university students. Anu. investig. [online]. 2007, vol.14, pp.00-00. ISSN 1851-1686.

An exploratory study was performed about social representations of education and work in 100 young Argentinean university students, which were selected through a non probabilistic sample by quotas, according to the type of study realized. Free associations were asked with the words education and work. For the data analysis, two indicators were considered: frequency and medium rank. The core of education social representation is conformed by the words: future, culture, formation, learning and teaching; and that of work by: money, responsibility, independence and effort. We conclude that women emphasize future temporal perspective and positive feelings which show a strong idealization of their independence, while men emphasize the main attributes needed to reach goals related to a purveyor role. Men show a greater pragmatism when they associate with work economic issues, while women detach adjectives which denote problems, making evidence of a more political view.

Keywords : Social representations; Education; Work; Social crisis; Young university students.
