Abstract

SCHMIDT, Vanina. Predictors of alcohol abuse among adolescents: Myths versus empirical evidence. Anu. investig. [online]. 2007, vol.14, pp.00-00. ISSN 1851-1686.

Since 2003, due to a CONICET research project "Family and personality factors. Their relationship with alcohol abuse among adolescents", we have worked with 900 adolescents from different socio-economic level schools in Buenos Aires Province. The aim of the present study is to analyze the results achieved up to present, which contradict some myths and prejudices widely shared among society, including health professionals. The relevance of this project is shown on the data analyzed on the first part of the investigation, in which 591 teenagers participated voluntarily and in an anonymous way. The data obtained was analyzed with descriptive statistics, Chi square, correlation analysis (r Pearson), ANOVA and logistic regression. Limitations and achievements of this study are introduced.

Keywords : Predictors; Alcohol; Abuse; Adolescents.
