Abstract

MAZZUCA, Roberto. Identifications in the first period of Lacan 's works (1931-1959). Anu. investig. [online]. 2007, vol.14, pp.00-00. ISSN 1851-1686.

This project intends to explore the specificities of the concept of identification in Lacan's work. It does so by analyzing its transformations, distinguishing the successive types of identification presented by the author, and discussing the relationship with Freud's understanding of identification as well as with the post-Freudian theorists'. The periodization is divided in three stages: the antecedents (before 1951, when Lacan begins to teach), the initial structuralist moment (the first four seminars), and the culmination of this position (in seminars five and six). The conclusion highlights the transformations of the concept during this period, as well as the great variety of types Lacan introduces in each stage. Moreover, two differences with Freud's concept are discussed.

Keywords : Identification; Madness; Alienation; Symbolic identification; Virile identification; Conformist identification; Identification with the real; Specular identification.
