Abstract

CRESPI, Melina Claudia  and  MIKULIC, Isabel María. Social reintegration: study of the future time perspective in persons who are free after being in prison. Anu. investig. [online]. 2011, vol.18, pp.401-408. ISSN 1851-1686.

The future time perspective (PTF) understood as the mental representation of objects located in the future is a central aspect in individuals thinking and behaviors (Nurmi, 1989). Due to the relevance of this variable in the study of social reintegration of persons who have obtained their freedom after being in prison, it is proposed to describe the PTF as parolees perceive it. An exploratory - descriptive cross sectional study has been designed with 140 adults on parole participation. A questionnaire specially built and validated for this research has been administered to assess future time perspective. This instrument integrates the following dimensions: goals, temporal extension, planning, evaluation and temporary attitude. The results indicate the existence of a limited PTF, characterized by a low amount of goals, resources and actions to achieve them. PTF has shown to play an important role in preventing recidivism which might have further outcomes.

Keywords : Future time perspective; Social reintegration; Parolees; Prevention.
