Resumen

CRYAN, Glenda  y  QUIROGA, Susana. Mentalization capacity study in Focalised Therapy Group for violent adolescents. Anu. investig. [online]. 2013, vol.20, n.1, pp.17-28. ISSN 1851-1686.

Reflective Function or mentalization is the capacity to understand and interpret one's own and other's behaviours as expressions of mental states: feelings, fantasies, desires, motivations, thoughts and beliefs (Fonagy, et.al, 2002). Analysis of Reflective Function in Focalised Therapy Group -FTG device have shown that violent adolescents have a low level of mentalization, which was refected in the oscillation between the rejection and the avoidance of the therapeutic interventions related to the mental states (score -1 ) and the explanations of not knowing or evoking distorted memories of them (score 1). The purpose of this paper is to analyze different clinical vignettes of FTG device' sessions to show the level of reflective functioning or mentalization of violent adolescents. Analysis of these vignettes demonstrated the diffculty of these adolescents to refect on early and actual traumatic situations (running away, death of both parents, physical and verbal fights with parents, brothers and /or rival groups). The patients' answers were based on avoidance, hostility, distraction of the therapist and various bizarre, ignored and generalized explanations, demonstrating the impossibility of understanding the mental states of themselves and others. los estados mentales propios y ajenos.
