Resumen

AZZOLLINI, Susana; BENVENUTO, Analía; BAIL PUPKO, Vera  y  VIDAL, Victoria A.. Manifestations of depressive symptoms in patients with type 2 diabetes: a qualitative approach. Anu. investig. [online]. 2013, vol.20, n.1, pp.279-285. ISSN 1851-1686.

In the framework of a broader UBACyT project, an exploratory study was conducted with a qualitative approach with the aim of identifying manifestations of depressive symptoms in the speech of the patients with type 2 diabetes attending surgeries of a public hospital of the Government of Buenos Aires (GCBA). 23 depth interviews were made of an intentional non-probabilistic sample of patients aged between 40 and 80, who attended the surgeries of Diabetology and Nutrition. A categorical analysis was performed based on the Grounded theory and the continuous comparative method. The main emergent categories were: fears and concerns (face to the disease` crisis, face to the squeals, face to the application of insulin and the possibility of genetics transmission); anguish (face to the initial impact of the diagnosis, in relation to changes in habits that implies the treatment, by the perception of lack of family support, because of the disease); listlessness in relation to the social links (isolation) and effects of the depression in the adherence to treatment. The results show evidence in favor of the course of the comorbidity of both disorders.

Palabras clave : Diabetes type 2; Depression; Public hospital.
