This article addresses the problem of memory in Freud. It is in 1914, in "Remembering, Repeating and Working-Through" that the statute of memory is in a border. It is no longer so clearly the counterpart of oblivion. I want to place the problems in 1914 and from 1920 in relation to the theory of memory. The theoretical framework consists of the technical writings of Freud as well as the texts of the second topic. In conclusion I argue that what changes from 1920 are the modalities of return. At the level of representations, the return formation occurs as a result of the repression commitment. But the Freudian notion of impression (Eindruck) presents another fallback mode, linked more to the drive in its unbound form (Bindung).
