In this paper we address the problem of the decline of father in Jacques Lacan´s teaching, from his text The family of 1938, to his reading of P. Claudel´s trilogy in 1961. We highlight how this production precedes the first pluralization of father´s names in 1963, constituting a fundamental antecedent to address the issue of father´s versions in the last part of his teaching.
