Abstract

FERRARI, Liliana et al. The objective and the subjective perspective in the diagnosis of workplace harassment: findings and consequences. Anu. investig. [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.1, pp.43-51. ISSN 1851-1686.

The diagnosis of workplace harassment is an area suitable for the discussion of methodological alternatives, factors involved, the position of those who consider themselves victims of it and organizational modalities. This discussion has usually revolved around the relevance of the subjective or objective perspective to provide representative and reliable rates, but it also includes the caution that researchers should deploy towards different forms of expectations that organizations have about what they want to find. Deepening the debate, the way both criteria work when producing incidence rates and the diagnostic process is exposed. In addition, aspects of overlapping or differences between both criteria are compared, as well as the analysis of the continuities and discontinuities with the results of other studies. Finally, the objective criterion is explored in terms of combinations of factors and their relationship with rates for victims, according to relevant socio-organizational and socio-demographic variables.

Keywords : Methodology; Objective criteria; Subjective criteria; Workplace harassment.
