The University of Buenos Aires Extension Department developed, among others, a pilot experience with disadvantaged people in an urban zone in Greater Buenos Aires. It was focused on improving the quality of life of its inhabitants through their own participation in solving critical life problems, and also offered to various Chairs and Departments of the University of Buenos Aires a professional training space for students and recently graduated professionals. Based on the analysis of written documentary sources of that time and current testimonies of the participants of the experience, this study characterized the pedagogical and didactic conceptions that were grounded in several educational programs and devices that were implemented to both promote the community development and address the educational issues of children, youth and adults.
