In this paper, I present a critical examination of certain analytical procedure widely extended in the literature devoted to peronism. This procedure grants an explanatory potential to categories such as 'charisma' and 'populism' by, first, using them as classificatory devices and, then, managing them as if they were features of the real world and, therefore, capable of explaining many particular facts. I intend to oppose to this practice another procedure -that of ethnography-, which focuses strategically on the actors' perspectives about the facts submitted to its scrutiny. This ethnographic procedure suggests that some of the many facts usually 'explained' by the alleged 'charismatic' nature of peronism could be meaningfully related to a certain conception of politics that is specifically peronista.
