Abstract

IRURTIA, María Paula. Intercambio, novedad y estrategias: las misiones jesuíticas del sur desde la perspectiva indígena. Avá [online]. 2007, n.11, pp.137-170. ISSN 1851-1694.

This paper is about the Indian perspective concerning the presence of Jesuit missions in the south of the Salado river in the present territory of the State of Buenos Aires. With the settlement of the missions the Indigenous showed different kind of reactions from acceptance to repelling according to different interests. It is not possible to differentiate between the groups that accepted and those which repelled the missions because of the profuse ties among them and the strategic value of the different positions. The Indian contacts with the missions seem to be part of the systems of barter, territory and interethnic relations whereas as the interactions took place a particular form of relationship and a certain vision about the other were shaping.

Keywords : Jesuit Missions; The 18th century; Pampa; Indian Perspective.
