The aim of this work is to analyse the way that mestizaje notion -tightly linked to the construction of the native- was politically used during the period of argentina nation consolidation. We will focus in some academic productions made on Calchaqui valley because, on a small scale, they show us the same meaning fluctuations and nationality models found on a national scale. From this case, we are interested in showing the role played by social sciences -particularly anthropology and history- in the nation building and consolidation.
