This article presents a theoretical approach to the age dimension in social praxis. Conceptual tools provided by classic anthropology and ethnic studies are taken into account. Drawing from these fields of study, the article reflects on the concepts of age alterity, age grade, age set and generation. Based on the theoretical discussion, the article sustains the necessity of consolidating a contemporary anthropological approach to age as a structural dimension of social praxis. The ways in which age, as a cultural construction, naturalizes asymmetries and power relations involving both interpellation and agency should be taken into consideration in this approach.
