Abstract

DIAZ, María Cecilia. IMPACIENTES: ACTIVISTAS POR LA REGULACIÓN DEL USO TERAPÉUTICO DE CANNABIS. Avá [online]. 2020, n.36, pp.137-164.  Epub Nov 29, 2020. ISSN 1851-1694.

This article analyzes itineraries and dynamics of mobilization around the demand for the regulation of the therapeutic use of cannabis in Argentina from an ethnographic approach. Taking as inspiration and starting point the term impatients coined by cannabis activist Brenda Chignoli, we reconstruct the emergence of medical cannabis as a public problem; we describe the convergent stories of women who transformed their experiences of waiting and despair through the search for information, cannabis cultivation and networking; and we trace the territorial deployment of the stories in institutional circulations, trips between meetings and ways of raising awareness. The use of the category impatient allows us to understand processes of self-construction that emphasize the dimensions of movement, commitment and dedication to a cause; and invites us to think about political mobilizations through the work that activists do with time, emotions and words.

Keywords : Medical cannabis; Impatients; Cannabis activism.
