Abstract
CASERMEIRO, José R. et al. Milk Production in an Improved Native Forest and Natural Grassland System. Cienc. docencia tecnol. [online]. 2008, n.36, pp.215-255. ISSN 1851-1716.
The grassland milk production from an improved native forest was evaluated to demonstrate the feasibility to generate systems of sustainable milk production for small producers from the North of the Entre Ríos Province. The grassland and native forest composition and condition, as well as the grassland quality and production were assessed and the soil in its chemical-physical and nutritional and chemical aspects were characterized. The lots subdivision, the grassland rests, the forage availability, the animal rotation, the adequate grazing rate, the forest cleaning and inter-seed are key tools for sustainability and rentability. The native grassland constitutes the most comfortable environment for animals, forage species and the soil. Small producers can produce milk in an improved sheepherding system without assuming implantation and maintenance costs implied in milk production with cultivated grazing lands.
