The aim of this quantitative research was to contribute to the knowledge of the characteristics shown by students at university entrance. We first analyzed the different policy approaches to university entrance, as well as the individual and institutional conditions presented at that time, and then we focused on the socio-educational profiles of 168 students at the entrance to the career of Education Sciences in the Universidad Nacional de La Plata during 2010 and 2011. Data were collected through a questionnaire and were analyzed in relation to the expectations of the students, their imaginary about studying and their educational and working trajectories.
