This paper provides an analysis in order to conceptualize social networks and learning communities, establish their importance and present some methodological strategies for their study in education with an emphasis on interaction and communication. Nowadays, social networks grow in an accelerated manner in various fields including education. Educational institutions are interested in incorporating social media to support the learning processes of students and teachers. Actions so far have not been widespread, so we need to do more research to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the appropriateness and impact of their use for educational purposes.
