This article presents the findings of a quantitative data collection from a database containing research project abstracts of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires for the 2016-2019 period. The goal was to describe the methodological and epistemological proposals of these projects, the relationship with subjects for empirical data production and the references made to an objective of intervention on a specific reality, in order to analyze the way in which research is carried out in the aforementioned institution. Variables according to the work hypothesis were constructed, such as: general methodological strategy, direct relationship with subjects for data production, and presence of an objective of intervention on reality. A descriptive quantitative methodology was carried out through the distribution of absolute and relative, general and stratified frequencies. The results indicate that methodological descriptions are not central in the abstracts; the direct relationship with subjects is not present for the most part, even in qualitative designs; and the concept of intervention has the potential to characterize the articulation between research practices and subjects of study.
