MIRANDA, Raquel. Theatralization and parody in Ars amandi: the political reachs of rethorics in Book I. Circe clás. mod. [online]. 2004, n.9, pp.157-172. ISSN 1851-1724.

Starting from the question of the basic relation between rhetoric and politics, the article shows that, using the metaphor of theatre, Ovid's Ars amandi subverts the civic and aesthetic sense of Greek theatrical spectacle but, in spite of that, does not lose its political transcendence, because parody assigns importance to eloquence as a social and public weapon that assures common good. The article, then, consists of two distinct parts: the first one analyzes aspects of the image of the theatre in Rome and the process of subvertion the Greek model of the spectacle; the second one focuses on the socio-political nature of the theatralization of rhetoric in the context of love relationships.

Palavras-chave : Rhetoric; Politics; Theatralization; Love; Discourse.
