Abstract

CARDIGNI, Julieta. Appropiation and translation in a late antiquity text: Macrobius' Commentary on the Dream of Scipio. Circe clás. mod. [online]. 2008, n.12, pp.77-86. ISSN 1851-1724.

The present paper attemps to study the operations of appropriation and translation at Macrobius' Commentarii in Somnium Scipionis, written in the first half of the fifth century. Through this exegetical practice operated by Macrobius the reader is built as a subject, in the act of reading and reformulating a former idea in the speech; this appears to be very important during the late antique period, because it constituted a method able to interpret the past and allow it to become part of the present, and could lead to the construction of a new cultural identity.

Keywords : Late antiquity; Commentary; Hermeneutic practices.
