Abstract

IBARRA COFRE, Ricardo. Socio-Spatial Segregation in Tourist Cities: The Case of Canela, Brazil. Estud. perspect. tur. [online]. 2007, vol.16, n.2, pp.195-215. ISSN 1851-1732.

This article aims to assess the social integration processes in institution related to work, health and education of populations living in socio-spatial segregated areas. The city of Canela, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil was chosen as a case study because it is mainly tourism oriented. The outcomes of the research indicate that tourism activities reproduce the capitalist accumulation principles and thus not allowing benefits to reach specific socio-spatial segregated neighborhood.
