SONAGLIO, Kerlei Eniele  e  DA SILVA BUENO, Liane. Zoning of Land Use and Occupation through SIG: a Tool for the Development of Guidelines for Sustainable Tourism Planning. Estud. perspect. tur. [online]. 2009, vol.18, n.4, pp.381-399. ISSN 1851-1732.

The sustainable planning of tourism in urban areas should base its actions aiming the urban environmental comfort and should focus its planning for the use of the local community. However, the truth of post modern tourism favors the town's receiving area for the tourists, marginalizing the local population which receives most of the negative impacts of tourism. It is necessary to search for technical initiatives that will result in sustainable tourism in urban environments using methods whose purpose is to harmonize the distribution of space, know their characteristics and environmental value, establish guidelines for the sustainable land use of tourism in coastal tourist urban areas. The intention of this paper is to detach the necessity of establishing direction lines for the sustainable development of the tourism in coastal tourist cities by creating a land use and zoning. Balneário Camboriu/SC, Brazil was taken as an example for viewing this subject. In order to achieve this goal the use of the Geo-processing through the Geographic Information System (GIS) and GPS is necessary allowing a more criterions mapping of the geo-environmental characteristics, delimiting the use of the soil to make sustainable tourism possible.
