Abstract

TOLEDO SOLHA, Karina  and  MOREIRA JACON, Maria do Carmo. Evaluation of Brazilian Electronic Scientific Journas in the Area of Tourism: Qualification Challanges. Estud. perspect. tur. [online]. 2010, vol.19, n.2, pp.182-200. ISSN 1851-1732.

The objective of this exploratory study was to understand and identify the main obstacles to the characterization of Brazilian scientific journals in the area of Tourism, so that they can be eligible for sponsorship by development agencies and inclusion in national and international databases. In order to do so, an evaluation instrument to assess both intrinsic and extrinsic aspects was devised. Such instrument was applied to the Tourism journals included in QUALIS, a classification program listing of CAPES - Coordenadoria de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal do Ensino Superior (Coordination for Improvement of Higher Education Personnel). The analysis was supplemented by interviews with the editors of the journals. The results showed that both the lack of knowledge in relation to the technical aspects of scientific publishing, and the lack of financial resources greatly hamper the qualification of such publications.

Keywords : Evaluation; Scientific editors; Brazilian electronic scientific journals; Development agencies; Tourism.
