Tourism between Economic Activity and Social Right. Nahuel Huapi National Park, 1934 - 1955. This paper discusses the history of tourism in natural protected areas during the years 1934 and 1955. It is based on an emblematic tourist region: The Nahuel Huapi National Park and the town of San Carlos de Bariloche. It shows that behind the notion of "protected area" a certain image of nation and citizenship are consolidated. The selected period reveals the presence of two antagonistic projects on tourism, one focusing on economic development and the other recognizing the social dimension of tourism.
